Student research bursary


The Climate and Disaster Governance Programme offers research bursaries of up to US$1000 to support research at the national or sub-national level in developing countries on topics that fall under the four themes:

  • Citizen engagement and accountability in climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction policy processes

  • What role for social protection in reducing climate and disaster risk?

  • Opportunities for climate and disaster institution building in fragile states

  • Implications of international climate and disaster risk reduction policy frameworks

Research topics that investigate cross-cutting issues related to Climate and Disaster Governance will also be considered.

Eligibility and Regulations

  • Bursaries will be awarded for research conducted by developing country researchers in developing countries.

  • Bursaries will be made to:
    • students engaged in post-graduate studies
    • non-students with professional development experience in relevant sectors
    In each case applicants must identify a local supervisor willing to oversee the research.
  • Bursaries can support existing or planned research projects that have been approved by a supervisor.

  • Research bursaries may be used for travel costs, translation, employing research assistants, equipment to use in the field, communicating the research and publication costs.

  • Bursary awards are for up to one year only from the date of award.

  • Successful applicants will be expected to produce a four-page report for the Climate and Disaster Governance programme, and to share their dissertation/ final research product, agreeing for the product to be shared through the Climate and Disaster Governance website if deemed suitable by members of the bursary award panel.

  • Where appropriate, successful applicants will be assigned a mentor linked to the Climate and Disaster Governance programme to help enhance the research.

  • Bursaries shall only be awarded if applications of a sufficiently high standard are forthcoming.

 

How to Apply

Applications are made by sending:

  • A copy of your CV, including contact details

  • A reference from someone who is qualified to comment on your research strengths and experience

  • A two-page research proposal

  • A budget proposal, indicating what the bursary will be spent on
