Theme Institution building in fragile states

This theme investigates the challenges that fragile states pose for effective climate and disaster governance and identifies opportunities for integrating disaster risk reduction, adaptation and development policy planning and institution building.


Research questions:

  • What impacts are climate change and increased disaster risk having on service delivery capacity in environments of fragility?

  • How do international agreements and regional institutions shape institution-building in fragile states and societies, and support capacity to engage in international processes (including UNFCCC negotiations)?

  • What are the different strategies of donors and civil society for integrating climate and disaster governance into development processes in fragile environments.
