This theme explores the potential for social protection policy and planning instruments to provide opportunities for integrating vulnerability reduction to climate change and disasters based on differentiated poverty and vulnerability analysis.
Research questions:
How can social protection assist in addressing the social dimensions of climate and disaster risk and provide opportunities for building resilience of households and communities to both based upon differentiated poverty and vulnerability analysis?
What role is there for a rights-based approach to social protection in the context of climate change and increased disaster risk?
How can risk transfer mechanisms, including disaster insurance schemes, contribute to improved protection and development of vulnerable populations and economies?
